Performances of the new musical Scandalous, starring two-time Tony nominee Carolee Carmello, begin October 13 at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre. Directed by David Armstrong, the production officially opens on November 15. Scandalous features a book and lyrics by Kathie Lee Gifford and music by David Pomeranz and David Friedman.
Set in 1920, Scandalous depicts the life of the first superstar evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson (Carmello), a woman whose passion for saving souls equaled her passion for making headlines and attracting crowds. She rose to fame amid scandalous love affairs and controversy, which ended in a much-publicized fall from grace.
In addition to Carmello, Scandalous stars Tony winner George Hearn (Wicked), Roz Ryan (Chicago), Edward Watts (Finian’s Rainbow), Andrew Samonsky (South Pacific) and Candy Buckley (Cabaret).
The Scandalous creative team includes set designer Walt Spanger, costume designer Gregory A. Poplyk, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Ken Travis and orchestration by Bruce Coughlin.
