An ailing conservative judge has one last chance at redemption in Stephen Belber’s new drama Don’t Go Gentle. The world premiere, directed by Lucie Tiberghian and presented by MCC Theater, opens off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theater on October 14.
Don’t Go Gentle stars Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner Michael Cristofer, as well as acclaimed stage veterans Angela Lewis, David Wilson Barnes, Jennifer Mudge and newcomer Maxx Brawer.
The play follows Judge Lawrence Driver (Cristofer), a conservative powerhouse on the bench, but a failure at home. Now retired, widowed, and seeking redemption, Lawrence volunteers to do pro bono legal work with Tanya (Lewis), a vulnerable ex-con with a troubled teenage son (Brawer). While Lawrence helps Tanya he must also work to repair the increasingly complicated relationships with his own adult children (Barnes and Mudge). When his newfound generosity is perceived as condescension, Lawrence runs the risk of losing everything.
