House for Sale, the Transport Group's new drama based on Jonathan Franzen's essay of the same name, opens off-Broadway on October 24 at the Duke on 42nd Street. Daniel Fish directs his own adaptation of Franzen’s work, which stars Rob Campbell, Lisa Joyce, Christina Rouner, Merritt Janson and Michael Rudko. The play will run through November 18.
The show follows Franzen as he returns to Missouri after the death of his mother. As he sells the house in which he grew up, he is immersed in memories of his childhood. The essay is presented word for word, as each of the five actors performs scenes. The play explores the meaning of the “quintessential American Dream.”
House for Sale features original music by Polly Pen, scene design by Laura Jellinek, lighting design by Thomas Dunn, sound design by Daniel Kluger, video projections by Andrew Lazarow and costume design by Therese Wadden.
