A complicated father and son relationship is at the center of the new folk musical Son of a Gun. The off-Broadway premiere, starring American Idiot's Van Hughes and Hair's Ryan Link, begins performances at Theatre Row’s Beckett Theatre on November 2, with an opening set for November 6.
Son of a Gun is a darkly comic folk rock musical that tells the story of Danderhauler Agamenon Khrusty (Hughes), heir apparent to the Khrusty family band. When Dan meets the love of his life, an awkward opening act named Lucy Sunshine, he’s forced to confront his charismatic but domineering father (Link).
The original musical features music and lyrics by Don Chaffer (with additional lyrics by Lori Chaffer), a book by Don Chaffer and Chris Cragin and direction by Gabriel Barre.
Joining Hughes and Link onstage are Alex Branton, Billy Brimblecom Jr., Michael Castillejos, Lori Fischer, Rebecca Hart, Jimmie James and Martin Landry.
