The Broadway premiere of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella has pushed back its first preview date to January 24, 2013, instead of the originally scheduled January 21 start date. Opening night, originally set for February 21, has also been shifted to February 24 at the Broadway Theatre. The date changes are a result of the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Directed by Mark Brokaw, Cinderella stars Laura Osnes as Cinderella and Santino Fontana as Prince Charming.
Cinderella was originally made for TV in 1957, starring Oscar winner Julie Andrews. The new production features a revised book by Douglas Carter Beane and additional Rodgers and Hammerstein songs that were originally composed for other musicals, including “I’ve Lived and I’ve Loved” (cut from The Sound of Music) and “Now is the Time” (cut from South Pacific).
In addition to Osnes and Fontana, Cinderella stars Tony winner Victoria Clark as Marie, Tony winner Harriet Harris as Madame, Ann Harada as Charlotte, Marla Mindelle as Gabrielle, Peter Bartlett as Sebastian and Greg Hildreth as Jean-Michel. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
Cinderella will include music adaptation, supervision and arrangements by David Chase, scenic design by Anna Louizos, costume design by William Ivey Long, lighting design by Kenneth Posner, sound design by Nevin Steinberg and choreography by Josh Rhodes.
