The new Broadway musical Scandalous, starring Tony nominee Carolee Carmello and Tony winner George Hearn, opens November 15 at the Neil Simon Theatre.
With a book and lyrics by Kathie Lee Gifford and music by David Pomeranz and David Friedman, Scandalous depicts the life of the first superstar revivalist Aimee Semple McPherson (Carmello), a woman whose passion for saving souls equaled her passion for making headlines and attracting crowds. The musical follows her life and career from her childhood to her controversial death in 1944, focusing on her mysterious "kidnapping" and the ensuing trial. McPherson rose to fame amid scandalous love affairs and controversy, which ended in a much-publicized fall from grace. Scandalous also features Roz Ryan, Edward Watts, Andrew Samonsky and Candy Buckley.
Directed by David Armstrong, Scandalous includes set design by Walt Spanger, costume design by Gregory A. Poplyk, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Ken Travis and orchestration by Bruce Coughlin.
