The Signature Theatre Company revival of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson has extended its limited run for a second time. The production, which was originally set to play through December 9, will now run through December 23. Directed by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, The Piano Lesson opened November 18 at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center.
The Piano Lesson stars Brandon J. Dirden as Boy Willie, Chuck Cooper as Wining Boy, Jason Dirden as Lymon, James A. Williams as Doaker, Roslyn Ruff as Berniece, Eric Lenox Abrams as Avery, Alexis Holt as Maretha and Mandi Masden as Grace. Set in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1936, The Piano Lesson centers around the Charles family as they struggle to decide whether to sell or keep their shared legacy—an antique piano.
The creative team for The Piano Lesson includes scenic designer Michael Carnahan, costume designer Karen Perry, lighting designer Rui Rita, sound designer David Van Tieghem, original music by Bill Sims, Jr. and fight direction by J. David Brimmer.
