Four-time Tony nominee Raul Esparza is the latest actor to sign on to Hannibal, NBC’s contemporary retelling of the story of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter, reports TVLine.
Esparza will play the pivotal role of Dr. Chilton, the sanitarium director who locks up Lecter (played in the series by Mads Mikkelsen). Esparza will appear in at least two episodes, but if his counterpart from the original Silence of the Lambs film is any indicator, there is high potential his role could become recurring during the season.
Esparza received Tony nominations for Speed-the-Plow, The Homecoming, Company and Taboo and has appeared on Broadway in Leap of Faith, Arcadia, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Rocky Horror Show and Cabaret. His off-Broadway work includes Twelfth Night, The Normal Heart, Comedians and tick,tick...BOOM! Esparza's film and TV credits include Pushing Daisies, My Soul to Take, Medium and Find Me Guilty.
