Tony winner Nathan Lane will host Symphonic Sondheim, the New York Philharmonic’s upcoming concert celebrating composer Stephen Sondheim. The concert is set for January 29, 2013 at Avery Fisher Hall.
Paul Gemignani will conduct the program, which will include arrangements from Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd and more. Gemignani led the Philharmonic's 2011 semi-staged production of Company, which featured Patti LuPone, Neil Patrick Harris, Stephen Colbert, Christina Hendricks and others. He has also served as musical director for many of Sondheim's shows including a Follies, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Into the Woods, and Passion
Lane earned a Tony Award for the 1995 revival of Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and starred in the Sondheim musical The Frogs at Lincoln Center in 2004. He won an additional Tony for The Producers and received a nomination for Guys and Dolls. He will return to Broadway this spring in The Nance.
