There’ll be no shortage of star power at the upcoming Gypsy of the Year competition, the annual Broadway talent show benefitting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Now in its 24th year, this year’s ceremony will be held on December 3 and 4 at the New Amsterdam Theatre and include a slew of talent from across the board serving as judges, presenters and performers.
Tony winners Katie Finneran (Annie) and Steve Kazee (Once) will present at the competition, while David Hyde Pierce (Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike) and Debra Monk (the upcoming Cat on a Hot Tin Roof revival) will reunite with the cast of Curtains and alumni from Chicago for a tribute to composer late Fred Ebb.
Peter and the Starcatcher’s dynamic duo Adam Chanler-Berat and Celia Keenan-Bolger will be on hand to introduce the judging panel, which includes John Bolton (A Christmas Story), Judith Ivey (The Heiress), composer John Kander, Judy Kaye (Nice Work If You Can Get It), producer Hal Luftig, Laura Osnes (Cinderella), Adam Pascal (Memphis) and Michael Shannon (Grace).
The ceremony will be hosted by Seth Rudetsky and will boast performances from the casts of Bring It On, Chicago, Evita, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Mary Poppins, NEWSical The Musical, Newsies, Once, Rebecca and Rock of Ages. The show will kick off with an opening number that celebrates the history of dance on Broadway, highlighting iconic choreography from shows like West Side Story, 42nd Street and A Chorus Line.
