Rock of Ages ensemble member Joey Calveri will take over the role of Stacee Jaxx in the headbanging jukebox musical beginning December 17 at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Calveri succeeds Jeremy Woodard, who will depart the production on December 16. Andrew C. Call will join the cast of Rock of Ages on December 17, replacing Calveri as Joey Primo.
Directed by Kristin Hanggi, Rock of Ages features a book by Chris D’Arienzo and a score of classic ‘80s rock songs. The musical tells the story of Drew, a city boy with dreams of becoming a rock star. When he takes a job as a busboy at the legendary Bourbon Room in Los Angeles, he meets Sherrie, a small-town girl with dreams of her own. In addition to Calveri, Rock of Ages currently stars Justin Matthew Sargent as Drew, Ashley Spencer as Sherrie, Genson Blimline as Lonny and Adam Dannheisser as Dennis. Rock of Ages originally opened at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 7, 2009, before transferring to the Helen Hayes Theatre on March 24, 2011.
Calveri currently plays Joey Primo and understudied Stacee Jaxx after performing the role in the Rock of Ages national tour. He also appeared on Broadway in Wonderland, on tour in Saturday Night Fever and in the Las Vegas production of We Will Rock You.
Call has appeared on Broadway in American Idiot, High Fidelity and the short-lived musical Glory Days. He starred in Altar Boyz off-Broadway and on tour.
