Les Misérables is getting plenty of attention in the latest round of awards announcements. The American Film Institute named the musical among its top 10 films of the year. The film also earned 11 Critics' Choice Movie Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor (Hugh Jackman), Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway), Best Director (Tom Hooper) and Best Acting Ensemble.
Up against Jackman for the Critics' Choice Best Actor statue is fellow Tony winner Denzel Washington (who's eyeing a Broadway return next year) for Flight. Jessica Chastain, currently starring in Broadway's The Heiress, received a Best Actress nomination for her work in the tense thriller Zero Dark Thirty. Additionally, Tony winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as an L. Ron Hubbard–like spiritual leader in The Master.
The 18th annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards will be handed out January 10, the same day that the Academy Award nominations are announced. AFI will honor the creative ensembles of their top films on January 11 in Los Angeles.
