Roundabout Theatre Company’s revival of Picnic, William Inge’s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy about two feuding families in small-town Kansas, begins performances on December 14. Maggie Grace, Ellen Burstyn, Sebastian Stan, Elizabeth Marvel, Reed Birney and Mare Winningham star in the new production, which opens at the American Airlines Theatre on January 13. The limited engagement runs through February 24.
First performed on Broadway in 1953, Picnic is a comedy about a group of women whose Labor Day picnic is disturbed by a handsome young drifter named Hal Carter (Stan) who sends the women reeling—especially the beautiful Madge (Grace). The cast also includes Madeleine Martin, Ben Rappaport, Cassie Beck, Maddie Corman and Chris Perfetti.
Picnic’s creative team includes set designer Andrew Lieberman, costumes designer David Zinn, lighting designer Jane Cox, sound designer Jill B.C. Du Boff and choreographer Chase Brock.
