The Broadway revival of Tennessee Williams’ Southern family drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof begins performances at the Richard Rodgers on December 18. Directed by Tony winner Rob Ashford, the play stars Tony winner Scarlett Johansson, Benjamin Walker, Ciaran Hinds and Debra Monk. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof officially opens on January 17.
Set in the Mississippi Delta, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is the story of Brick (Walker) and his wife Maggie (Johansson), who are celebrating the 65th birthday of Brick’s father, Big Daddy Pollitt (Hinds). Big Daddy is bothered by the rocky relationship between his beloved son Brick, an aging football hero who has taken up drinking, and his beautiful and feisty wife Maggie. As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of Southern Gentility slips away as unpleasant truths emerge.
The cast of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof also includes Emily Bergl, Michael Park, Vin Knight and Brian Reddy. The play features set design by Christopher Oram, costume design by Julie Weiss, lighting design by Neil Austin and original music and sound design by Adam Cork.
