Tony nominee Jonathan Groff will voice the leading male role in Walt Disney’s upcoming animated movie Frozen, reports Entertainment Weekly.
Groff will play Kristoff, a mountain man whose biggest ally is a reindeer named Sven. Kristoff teams up with the fearless Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) to traverse a harsh winter landspace in order to find Anna’s magical older sister Else (voiced by Idina Menzel), who is controlling the weather.
The tale is loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairytale The Snow Queen and will be directed by Chris Buck (Surf’s Up, Tarzan) and Jennifer Lee (Wreck-It Ralph). Frozen hits theaters on November 27, 2013.
Groff rose to fame after a Tony-nominated performance in the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening. Audiences will also recognize Groff from his role as Jesse St. James on Glee, Ian Todd on Boss and various other roles in films like Taking Woodstock, Twelve Thirty and The Conspirator.
