Bring It On's Kate Rockwell will take over the role of Sherrie in the headbanging jukebox musical Rock of Ages beginning January 21 at the Helen Hayes Theatre. Teresa Stanley will also join the cast as Justice on the same date. Rockwell succeeds Ashley Spencer, with Stanley taking over for original star Michele Mais, both of whom will play their final perfomances on January 20.
Directed by Kristin Hanggi, Rock of Ages features a book by Chris D’Arienzo and a score of classic ‘80s rock songs. The musical tells the story of Drew, a city boy with dreams of becoming a rock star. When he takes a job as a busboy at the legendary Bourbon Room in Los Angeles, he meets Sherrie, a small-town girl with dreams of her own. Rock of Ages currently stars Justin Matthew Sargent as Drew, Joey Calveri as Stacee Jaxx, Genson Blimline as Lonny, Adam Dannheisser as Dennis, Cody Scott Lancaster as Franz, Josephine Rose Roberts as Regina and Paul Schoeffler as Hertz. Rock of Ages originally opened at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 7, 2009, before transferring to the Helen Hayes Theatre on March 24, 2011.
Rockwell currently stars as Skylar in Broadway's Bring It On, which is set to close December 30. She was a finalist on NBC’s Grease: You’re The One That I Want before making her Broadway debut in Legally Blonde, followed by the Broadway revival of Hair. Stanley made her Broadway debut in the ensemble of A Color Purple, and played the role of Justice in the first national tour of Rock of Ages.
