Soul Sister, the new musical inspired by the music and life of Ike and Tina Turner, has announced dates and venues for its upcoming U.K. tour. Written by John Miller and Pete Brooks and directed by Brooks and Bob Eaton, the bio-musical stars Emi Wokoma as Tina Turner and Chris Tummings as Ike.
Soul Sister will launch its U.K. tour on January 14, 2013 at the Glasgow’s King’s Theatre, where it will run through January 19 before playing His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen (January 21-26), Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre (January 28-February 2), Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre (February 25-March 2), Oxford’s New Theatre (March 4-9), Hull’s New Theatre (March 11-16), Cardiff’s New Theatre (March 18-23), Tunbridge Wells’ Assembly Hall (March 25-30), Cheltenham’s Everyman Theatre (April 2-6), the Bournemouth Pavilions (April 8-13), Derby’s Assemly Rooms (April 15-20), Belfast’s Grand Opera House (April 29-May 4), Northampton’s Royal & Derngate (May 6-11), Ipswitch’s Regent Theatre (May 13-18) and Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre (June 10-15).
The bio musical features Turner classics including “Simply the Best," "What’s Love Got to Do with It," "Proud Mary," "Private Dancer" and "River Deep Mountain High." The musical follows the highs and lows, the passions and heartbreak of Ike and Tina Turner as their careers blossomed and their marriage crumbled.
Soul Sister features design by Laura Hopkins, musical staging by Jason Pennycooke and musical supervision and arrangement by Keith Strachan. The musical played a limited engagement at the West End’s Savoy Theatre in August.
