It’s going to be a jolly holiday for Nicolas Dromard. The Canadian actor will return to Broadway’s Mary Poppins, replacing original cast member and Tony nominee Gavin Lee as Mary's lovable sidekick Bert. Dromard will begin his run at the Amsterdam Theatre on January 9. As previously announced, Lee departs the show on January 4 to star in the West End musical Top Hat.
Dromard’s Broadway credits include Oklahoma!, The Boy From Oz and Mary Poppins. He served as a swing in the original Broadway cast of Mary Poppins before taking over the role of Bert in 2010. He then continued in the role of Bert on the show’s national tour. His other credits include Fiyero in Wicked, Sketch in Hairspray, Pepper in Mamma Mia! and Tulsa in Gypsy.
The popular stage musical Mary Poppins, based on both P.L. Travers’ stories and the classic Disney film, tells the story of the uptight and disconnected Banks family and the magical nanny who turns their lives upside down. Mary Poppins premiered in September 2004 at the Bristol Hippodrome before transferring to the West End's Prince Edward Theatre. The Broadway production opened on November 16, 2006 and won a 2007 Tony Award for Best Sceneic Design of a Musical. The 1964 film starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, and won five Academy Awards.
