TV fans are buzzing all over the country about the network return of Downton Abbey, the upstairs-downstairs soap which roared back to PBS for its third season premiere on January 6. With Downton hunk Dan Stevens currently headlining The Heiress, we polled Broadway.com readers for their pick of which dapper Downton cast member should make their Broadway debut (or in some cases, their return). Find out which high-society hobnobbers made the cut below!
1. Maggie Smith – 24%
Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe and Tony-winning actress Maggie Smith can add yet another accolade to her trophy shelf! Broadway.com readers granted the grand dame of Downton Abbey the top honor, voting for the Dowager Countess to make her return to the Broadway stage. Even though it’s been 23 years since she’s graced the Great White Way, she’ll always be welcomed home on Broadway!
2. Phyllis Logan – 18%
Mrs. Hughes finally has something to smile about: Readers hope that the actress behind Downton’s always busy housekeeper will ship over to America and make her Broadway debut. It’s an exciting win for Logan, sure, but it’s an even more exciting vote of confidence for any aspiring maid looking to make a big career move.
3. Michelle Dockery – 15%
Following in the footsteps of her screen husband Dan Stevens, Downton’s leading lady Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) rounds out the top three. Give this classy gal some Shakespeare and a spotlight and we’re sure she’ll charm the audience completely.
