Forget storming the barricades, those singing French revolutionaries are heading to the Oscars! The movie adaptation of Les Misérables scored eight Academy Award nominations on January 10 including Best Picture, Best Actor (Hugh Jackman), Best Supporting Actress (Anne Hathaway) and Best Original Song ("Suddenly").
Other Broadway veterans to nab nominations include The Heiress' Jessica Chastain (Best Actress for Zero Dark Thirty), Tony winner Denzel Washington (Best Actor for Flight), Bradley Cooper (Best Actor for Silver Linings Playbook), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Best Supporting Actor for The Master), Tony winner Alan Arkin (Best Supporting Actor for Argo), Tommy Lee Jones Best (Supporting Actor for Lincoln), Sally Field (Best Supporting Actress for Lincoln), Helen Hunt (Best Supporting Actress for The Sessions) and Tony-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Best Adapted Screenplay for Lincoln).
Les Misérables' other nominations include Best Costume Design (Paco Delgado), Best Makeup & Hairstyle Design (Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell), Best Production Design (Eve Stewart for production design and Anna Lynch-Robinson for set decoration) and Best Sound Mixing (Andy Nelson, Mark Paterson and Simon Hayes).
In addition to Les Miz, the other Best Picture nominations are Lincoln, Zero Dark Thirty, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Django Unchained, Argo, Silver Linings Playbook, Life of Pi and Amour.
The 85th Annual Academy Awards will take place February 24, hosted by Seth MacFarlane.
