Nominations for the 24th annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced on January 15 with TV's Smash, Bring It On, The Columnist and more among the nominees. Winners of the awards, which honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the LGBT community, will be announced at New York’s Marriot Marquis on March 16, as well as at L.A.’s JW Marriot on April 20 and San Francisco’s Hilton Union Square on May 11.
Broadway’s Bring It On and The Columnist and the off-Broadway productions of Cock, The Whale and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike all received nominations for Outstanding Broadway or Off-Broadway Show.
The Broadway-centric drama Smash picked up a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series alongside Degrassi, The L.A. Complex, True Blood and Grey’s Anatomy.
Shows starring Broadway veterans including Laura Benanti and Andrew Rannells were among the Outstanding Comedy Series nominees: Glee, Modern Family, The New Normal, Go On and Happy Endings
Battling it out for Outstanding TV Movie or Mini-Series are American Horror Story: Asylum (starring Broadway vets Lily Rabe and Jessica Lange), Political Animals (starring Picnic’s Sebastian Stan and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike’s Sigourney Weaver) and Hit and Miss.
Nominees for Outstanding Off-Off-Broadway Show include Map of Virtue, Baby Daddy, From White Plains, Sontag: Reborn and Tail! Spin!
Nominees for Outstanding Los Angeles Theatre include Edith Can Shoot Shoot Things and Hit Them, Pieces, Silent, The Children and The Irish Curse.
Wicked vet Adam Lambert received a nomination for Outstanding Music Artist alongside Scissor Sisters, Rufus Wainwright, Gossip and Frank Ocean.
The nominations for Outstanding Film include Cloud Atlas (starring Lucky Guy headliner Tom Hanks), ParaNorman, Your Sister’s Sister, The Perks of Being a Wallflower and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (starring Tony winner Maggie Smith).
