Audiences have been flocking to catch Academy Award nominee Jessica Chastain and Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens in The Heiress. The Broadway revival will recoup its full $3 million investment during its final week of performances. The production is scheduled to hold its final performance on February 9, having played 27 previews and 117 regular performances.
In addition to Chastain as Catherine Sloper and Stevens as Morris Townsend, The Heiress stars Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner David Strathairn as Dr. Austin Sloper and Tony winner Judith Ivey as Lavinia Penniman.
Based on the Henry James novella Washington Square, The Heiress tells the story of Catherine, a wealthy but exceedingly plain-looking woman who is pursued by a handsome, mysterious suitor. Although Catherine quickly falls in love with the suitor, her father suspects the man is only after his daughter’s inheritance. The current revival of The Heiress opened November 1 at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
