The Signature Theatre Company’s annual gala celebration will honor Tony-winning playwright David Henry Hwang on February 11 at off-Broadway’s Pershing Square Signature Center. Hwang’s play The Dance and the Railroad began previews February 5 at the Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre, starring Rui Iskandar and Yueken Wu.
Guests who will perform and read from Hwang’s body of work include B.D. Wong, John Lithgow, Oskar Eustis, Nellie McKay, Dance China NY, Gail Papp, John Guare and Edward Albee. Additional stars schedule to appear include May Adrales, Eric Bogosian, Jo Bonney, Martha Clarke, Matthew Broderick, Michael Greif, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, James Lapine, Leslie Lee, Kenneth Lonergan, David Margulies, Charles Mee, Kate Mulgrew, Gregory Mosher, Jose Llana, Billy Porter, Laila Robins, Lea Salonga, Leigh Silverman, Lois Smith, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Regina Taylor and Michael Wilson.
Hwang earned a Tony Award for M. Butterfly, and additional nominations for Golden Child and for the book of the musical Flower Drum Song. He also earned Pulitzer Prize nominations for M. Butterfly and Yellow Face. Hwang’s additional Broadway credits include Face Value and Chinglish and the book for Aida.
