Willemijn Verkaik makes her Broadway debut on February 12 as Elphaba in the high-flying musical blockbuster Wicked. The Dutch actress is scheduled to play a 15-week engagement at the Gershwin Theatre, taking over the leading role from Jackie Burns.
Verkaik has previously played Elphaba, originating the part in Germany and later reprising it Holland. In addition to receiving YouTube stardom for videos from her turn in the Dutch production, she received a Musicalworld Award, as well as the 2009 and 2010 Readers’ Choice Award for Best Musical Actress from the German magazine Musical. Her additional stage credits include Elisabeth, 3 Musketiers, We Will Rock You and Aida.
In addition to Verkaik, Wicked currently features Alli Mauzey as Glinda, Kyle Dean Massey as Fiyero, Randy Danson as Madame Morrible, Adam Grupper as The Wizard, Catherine Charlebois as Nessarose, Tom Flynn as Dr. Dillamond, and F. Michael Hayne as Boq.
