Looks like Macaco is getting a night off! Westminster winner Banana Joe, who took home the coveted Best in Show prize at the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, will make his Broadway debut in The Mystery of Edwin Drood for one night only on February 13.
Banana Joe, a five-year-old affenpinscher, will appear in the musical revival as the pup belonging to stage diva Alice Nutting, played to perfection by Edwin Drood headliner Stephanie J. Block, who usually carts out her own dog for a hilarious cameo in the second act.
Block tweeted the news herself, writing, "#westminster Can't get enough of Banana Joe? He will be making his Broadway debut tonite 2/13 at THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD. Come and enjoy!"
This will be a night of many firsts for Banana Joe, including (but not limited to) his first appearance on a Broadway stage, his first time being handled by a Victorian male impersonator and (assumedly) his first inclusion in a murder investigation.
