Two-time Olivier Award winner Samantha Spiro has been tapped to play Lady Macbeth in Eve Best’s new production of the Scottish play at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. The play runs June 22 through September 29.
The infamous Bard tragedy follows the psychological breakdown of Scottish lord Macbeth (Joseph Millson) as he allows the powers of evil, ambition and murder to consume his life. Joining Spiro and Millson will be cabaret performer Bette Bourne as the Porter, with additional cast members set to be announced soon.
Macbeth will mark the directing debut of stage and screen star Eve Best, well-known as a two-time Tony nominee for A Moon for the Misbegotten and The Homecoming, as well as a star of TV's Nurse Jackie. The production of Macbeth will be designed by Mike Britten and scored by Olly Fox.
Spiro’s extensive stage credits include her Olivier-winning performances in Hello Dolly and Merrily We Roll Along, as well as acclaimed turns in The Taming of the Shrew, Filumena, Chicken Soup with Barley and Twelfth Night. Bourne’s credits include Romeo and Juliet at the Globe and Resident Alien at the Bush.
