Lindsay Mendez better get ready to break out her big hair again. Mendez, Derek Klena and the cast of Dogfight will reunite to record an original cast album for the off-Broadway military musical. Ghostlight Records is planning a spring release for the album, though no exact date has been announced at this time.
Set in 1963 on the eve of a group of young soldiers' deployment to Southeast Asia, Dogfight follows Corporal Eddie Birdlace (Klena) and idealistic waitress Rose Fenny (Mendez). After making a bet with his Marine buddies as to who can pick up the ugliest date, Birdlace enlists the less-than-glamorous girl for a night on the town. However after learning of Eddie's cruel game, the waitress teaches the soldier the power of compassion.
In addition to Klena and Mendez, Dogfight also starred Annaleigh Ashford, Becca Ayers, Nick Blaemire, Steven Booth, Dierdre Friel, Adam Halpin, F. Michael Haynie, James Moye and Josh Segarra. Directed by Joe Mantello, Dogfight ran at Second Stage last summer from July 16 to August 19.
During the musical's run show composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul sat down at the piano with Broadway.com to discuss the musical's moving score. Check out what they had to say below!
