The one-night-only Songs for a New World concert has added an additional performance! The March 11 benefit concert, starring Nick Adams (Priscilla Queen of the Desert), Ashley Brown (Mary Poppins), Jessica Rush (Jersey Boys) and Michael James Scott (The Book of Mormon), will now hold a 9:30 PM show, as well as the previously announced 7 PM performance. Helmed by Newsies’ Tony-nominated director Jeff Calhoun, Songs for a New World will be presented at XL Cabaret.
Songs for a New World is Jason Robert Brown’s 1995 revue of songs connected by the theme, “the moment of decision.” Adams, Brown, Rush and Scott will play a number of different characters as they sing pop, gospel, jazz and classical-themed tunes in Brown’s wildly popular piece. James Sampliner musically directs.
A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to The Performing Arts Project, a non-profit organization that seeks to inspire and prepare new generations of actors, artists, singers, dancers, choreographers, directors and performers.
