School is officially in session for the little boys and girls of Matilda. The musical begins performances at the Shubert Theatre on March 4. Starring original West End star Bertie Carvel as Miss Trunchbull and four young performers (Sophia Gennusa, Oona Laurence, Bailey Ryon and Milly Shapiro) sharing the title role, the Matthew Warchus-helmed production officially opens on April 11.
Matilda is the story of an extraordinary girl who dreams of a better life. Armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, Matilda dares to take a stand and change her destiny. Based on the beloved Roald Dahl novel of the same name, the musical features a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin.
The Matilda cast also includes Lauren Ward as Miss Honey, Lesli Margherita as Miss Wormwood, Gabriel Ebert as Mr. Wormwood, Karen Aldridge as Mrs. Phelps and Ted Wilson as Eric.
Matilda features choreography by Peter Darling, set and costume design by Rob Howell, lighting design by Hugh Vanstone and sound design by Simon Baker.
