The first New York revival of the Tony-winning musical Passion has extended its off-Broadway run by one week at Classic Stage Company. Starring Tony nominees Melissa Errico and Judy Kuhn, the production will now play through April 14. Passion opened on February 28 and was initially set to close on April 7.
Adapted from the film Passione d'Amore and set in 19th century Italy, the James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim musical follows handsome soldier Giorgio (Ryan Silverman), who becomes the object of obsessive love from Fosca (Kuhn), his colonel's chronically ill, bedridden cousin. The story unfolds as Giorgio sends and receives letters from his mistress, Clara (Errico).
Directed by John Doyle, Passion features music direction by Rob Berman, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Jane Cox, sound design by Dan Moses Schreier and orchestration by Jonathan Tunick.
