Well, at least we’ve got a title and a song! Audra McDonald’s upcoming fifth album will be titled Go Back Home and feature the John Kander and Fred Ebb tune of the same name. The song was performed on Broadway in The Scottsboro Boys by McDonald's former Porgy and Bess co-star Joshua Henry. McDonald is currently in the studio recording the album, which will be released by Nonesuch Records. No other tracks or a release date for the album have been announced at this time.
McDonald is a five-time Tony winner for her performances in Porgy and Bess, A Raisin in the Sun, Ragtime, Master Class and Carousel. Her other studio albums include Way Back to Paradise, How Glory Goes, Happy Songs and Build a Bridge.
In The Scottsboro Boys “Go Back Home” is performed by the character Haywood Patterson while he is imprisoned after he and a group of young African-American men are falsely accused of raping two white women. Check out Henry’s version of the song below!
