Pilot season is in full swing as another Broadway alum has signed on to join the television party. Recent Picnic performer Ben Rappaport (who made his Broadway debut in the show) is set to lead the TBS workplace comedy Do It Yourself, reports Deadline.com.
Rappaport will play Nick Porter, a twentysomething math teacher who takes a job in a Home Depot-esque mega store after being laid off. He’ll join Bill Engvall, who will play his exec-turned-blue collar co-worker Dale, as well as Melora Hardin (The Office, Broadway's Chicago) and Ryan McPartlin (Chuck). The multi-camera project comes to TBS from Walt Becker and Rob Long, and will be directed by James Widdoes.
Rappaport, who professed his desire to do more Broadway after Picnic, is also known to television audiences as the star of Outsourced. He also starred opposite Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones in Hope Springs and will be featured in the upcoming film The Brass Teapot.
