As the lights come down on another busy week on Broadway, we’ve learned a ton of crazy new lessons from our favorite stars. From Amanda Seyfried needing years of voice lessons to Skylar Astin's big Broadway plans, check out all the nifty stuff we’ve learned in the last seven days.
Amanda Seyfried Has a Wicked Healthy Ego
Amanda Seyfried has already starred in two big movie musicals: Les Misérables and Mamma Mia!, but does she have the chops for Broadway? Well, no. The actress says that although her big dream is starring in Wicked on the Great White Way, she would need “another two years of voice lessons” before she could do it. Two years, a decade, a lifetime. Whatever.
The Newsies Boys Would Kill for Each Other
Sure, the cast of Newsies is really close, but departing Andrew Keenan-Bolger says their bond borders on illegal: “I vividly recall Bres [Ryan Breslin] looking deep into my eyes and saying that if need be, he would ‘help me dispose of a body.’” Hey boys, we know you’re all about seizing the day, but this is a Disney show. Stay cool.
Kristin Chenoweth is Down for a Wicked Reunion
Kristin Chenoweth could totally see herself doing a Wicked reunion concert! The Tony and Emmy winner told us that the musical holds a very special place in her heart, but she says the powers that be need to get on it before she "gets too old." The musical will celebrate it's 10th anniversary in October and we can think of no better Halloween treat than Cheno getting her "Popular" on all over again. No singing lessons needed. (Duh.)
Skylar Astin Has Big Broadway Plans
Skylar Astin stopped by Show People and revealed his killer producing instincts. His Broadway ideas ranged from Lea Michele as Dot in Sunday in the Park with George (in like 15 years) to his Pitch Perfect co-star Rebel Wilson headlining a revival of Little Shop of Horrors. May we make a suggestion? Just come back to Broadway, Skylar! (And don’t forget your sock!)
Fetch is Like So Totally Happening
Composer Jeff Richards (a.k.a. Mr. Tina Fey) says the “slang from England” will definitely be a song in the Mean Girls musical. Love it! How about “I’m Not a Regular Mom, I’m a Cool Mom?” Or “On Wednesdays We Wear Pink?”” Or maybe “You Smell Like a Baby Prostitute?” What’s that, you say? Let the man do his job? Fine. Where’s our Burn Book?!
Hunter’s Got His Hands on a Hard…Layla?
Tony nominee Hunter Foster has the hottest date in town! Her name is Layla, she's red-hot, she's got a big trunk, people just can't keep their hands off of her, but, oh man, is she a truck. No, really, she's an actual truck. The Hands on a Hardbody star told us that the cast of the new musical decided to give their biggest and brightest co-star a name. Leave it up to Broadway to make mechanophilia hot.
Anna Kendrick is too Busy to Email Jeremy Jordan
It turns out Anna Kendrick hasn’t yet reached out to her Last Five Years film co-star Jeremy Jordan. “I thought maybe she would e-mail me, but I don’t know,” Jordan told us. Don’t fret, Jer, if you followed Anna on Instagram, you’d know she’s on vacay. Ugh, this how it all started with Jamie and Cathy! Boy meets girl, girl skips town, boy’s career takes off, girl posts photos of the word “BOOBS” carved into the sand. That’s how it goes, right?
James Franco Adds Broadway to His Resume
James Franco was recently awarded the 2,492nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is appropriate seeing as how he’s working on the same number of projects. While promoting his film Oz the Great and Powerful, Franco revealed he will make his Broadway debut as George in Of Mice and Men. Does the movie star/awards show host/artist/novelist/grad student/director/professor really need to branch out?
CamMack Will “Do Anything” for SamBarks
Les Miz producer Cameron Mackintosh dreamed a dream once and it was to cast Samantha Barks in everything. Mackintosh hopes the actress will play Nancy both in a Broadway revival of Oliver! and in a film remake of the classic musical. We get it, Cam, we’re also crushing on the talented and be-dimpled actress. And we love a singing hooker. Right, Anne?
Cheap Seats Offer Cheap Thrills at Tiffany’s
The balcony is not usually the most sought-after spot in a Broadway house, but that might change. Breakfast at Tiffany’s stars Emilia Clarke and Cory Michael Smith’s bare bubble bath scene offers more to please the eye from the nosebleed section. You’re welcome for the heads-up. P.S. Keep your phone in your pants. Security is beefed up, and no one wants your blurry nudie shots anyway.
