Many of our favorite Broadway stars are about to head down the yellow brick road...and straight into movie theaters! The 3-D animated musical film Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return (formerly titled Dorothy of Oz) will finally open in movie theaters early next year. Featuring original songs by Grammy- and Oscar-nominated singer Bryan Adams, the film will be completed this summer.
Legends of Oz features the vocal work of Lea Michele as Dorothy Gale, Tony winner Bernadette Peters as Glinda, Jim Belushi as Lion, Dan Aykroyd as Scarecrow and Kelsey Grammer as Tin Man. The animated film also introduces new characters to the land of Oz including Patrick Stewart as Tugg, Hugh Dancy as Marshal Mallow, Megan Hilty as China Princess, Oliver Platt as Wiser and Martin Short as the Jester.
The film follows Dorothy after her initial adventures in the magical land. After returning home to Kansas, Dorothy is pulled back to Oz when she learns her friends (the Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow) are in danger as an evil jester tries to take control of the Emerald City. The film's soundtrack will also be available next year.
