A slew of stage stars including Caissie Levy, Newsies’ Corey Cott and Hands on a Hardbody’s Jay Armstrong Johnson will lend their talents to Broadway Sings Stevie Wonder. The one-night-only event will take place at Le Poisson Rouge on April 14.
Joining Levy, Cott and Johnson for the musical tribute are Keala Settle (Hands on a Hardbody), Derek Klena (Dogfight), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), Zak Resnick (Mamma Mia!), Rebecca Naomi Jones (American Idiot), Titus Burgess (Guys & Dolls), Matt DeAngelis (Hair), Morgan Karr (Spring Awakening), Maia Nkenge Wilson (The Book of Mormon), Chelsea Packard (Hands on a Hardbody), Alysha Umphress (American Idiot), Corey Mach (Godspell), Cortney Wolfson (Addams Family), Melanie Field (Evita), Lulu Fall (Hair), Amber Iman (Rent), Russell Fischer (Jersey Boys), Eric Michael Krop (Godspell) and Shaleah Adkisson (Hair). The evening of song will feature music direction and arrangements by Joshua Stephen Kartes.
Broadway Sings Stevie Wonder is the latest in the Broadway Sings series at Le Poisson Rouge. Past concerts have saluted the work of Adele, Michael Jackson and Beyonce.
Stevie Wonder is one of Motown’s biggest stars. He has recorded more than 30 U.S. top ten hits and received a record 22 Gramy Awards (the most of any male solo artist). His hit songs include “My Cherie Amour,” “Superstition,” “I Just Called to Say I Love You,” “For Once in My Life” and “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.”
