Comedian Lisa Lampanelli is bringing her unique brand of outrageous comedy to off-Broadway’s New Group with a sneak peek workshop of her new one-woman show. Following the upcoming preview, the comedian hopes to bring the previously announced solo show (which is tentatively billed as The Untitled Lisa Lampanelli Project: This Ain’t Stand-Up, Bitches!) to Broadway. Directed by John Rando (A Christmas Story) and developed with Alan Zweibel (700 Sundays), the show will run for four performances only March 21 through 23 at the Acorn Theatre in Theatre Row.
In the new workshop, Lampanelli will reveal the woman behind the comic as she tells stories about her struggles with food, men and body image. The Untitled Lisa Lampanelli Project, shows a new side to comedy’s loveable Queen of Mean that few would guess exists.
"I say the C-word for a living and suddenly people will see the other side of me,” Lampanelli told Broadway.com of her new solo show-in-progress in April 2012. “Isn’t that a fabulous fantasy? Isn’t that the greatest idea? Can you imagine? I won’t be just a C-word anymore!”
Best known for her appearances on Comedy Central’s Friars Club Roasts, Lampanelli’s many TV specials include Lisa Lampanelli: Long Live the Queen, Lisa Lampanelli: Take It Like a Man and Lisa Lampanelli: Dirty Girl. Her film and TV credits include Reno 911, Delta Farce, The Aristocrats and Drillbit Taylor. She is also the author of Chocolate Please: My Adventures in Food, Fat and Freaks.
