Mamie Gummer will star in the new CBS drama pilot Backstrom, reports Deadline.com.
Gummer will lead the show alongside The Office breakout Rainn Wilson, who stars as “an overweight, offensive, irascible detective” who can’t seem to quit his self-destructive ways. Gummer will play Nicole Carlton, a watchful detective who is distressed by her recent breakup with her longtime lesbian partner.
Gummer was the star of the CW drama series Emily Owens MD, which was cancelled early in its run. The daughter of Meryl Streep and wife of Benjamin Walker, Gummer has demonstrated her inherent acting chops on Broadway in 2008’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses and on television in The Good Wife, The Big C and Off the Map. Her off-Broadway credits include The School for Lies, Mr. Marmalade and Water's Edge.
