Mamma Mia! cast member and Wicked alum Blake Whyte will release his debut album More Like Myself on April 7, with an accompanying celebratory party at New York’s Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater.
Whyte, a pop/soul singer, describes his sound as a mix of “Donny Hathaway, Regina Spektor, Jim Croce, Jason Mraz, Gavin DeGraw, Ben Folds, film composer James Horner and Sir Elton John.” The album will draw on Whyte’s own life experiences, perhaps most notably in a highlight track entitled “Common Ground,” written during and following Whyte’s ascent of Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Currently kicking up his flippers in the ensemble of Mamma Mia!, Whyte made his Broadway debut as the Fiyero understudy in Wicked. His off-Broadway credits include The Fearless, Walker in Babylon and The Mormon Project.
