Matthew Broderick has signed on for his first TV leading man stint in CBS’ untitled Tad Quill comedy pilot, reports Deadline.com.
Broderick, who frequently guest stars on television but rarely signs on as a lead, has committed to play Jack, a recently widowed single father who attempts to juggle his reemergence in the dating pool with the trials of raising his 12-year-old son.
The show, from Scrubs and Samantha Who? exec Quill, was initially developed three years ago but did not make it into production because of casting difficulties. With Broderick on board, the show should shape up and complete its casting within the coming weeks.
Broderick’s recent TV appearances include Modern Family, 30 Rock, Adventure Time and Louie. The two-time Tony winner and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner currently stars on Broadway in the musical comedy Nice Work If You Can Get It.
