As equal rights supporters take to the streets of Washington D.C., we’ve been dreaming of all the same sex Broadway couples who can finally get married if the Defense of Marriage Act is thrown out by the Supreme Court. From Georges and Albin of La Cage Aux Folles to Maureen and Joanne in Rent, we asked you which musical couple you’d most like to see get hitched as a guest at their wedding. Check out the winners below!
1. Angel and Collins in Rent - 33%
Fans can’t wait to escape the city and fly to Angel and Collins’ destination wedding in Santa Fe! Catering will be provided by the bride and groom’s own New Mexican restaurant, with inventive centerpiece decorations made out of old tablecloths by the bride. Bridesmaids Maureen, Mimi and Joanne and groomsmen Mark and Roger will round out the wedding party. After the lovely couple exchanges their vows, get ready for an open bar, with lots of Stoli!
2. Jason and Peter in Bare - 12%
As soon as Bare lovebirds Jason and Peter turn 18, fans are lining up to attend their wedding! It’s a hot ticket, because the boys will have their entire high school class in attendance. The grooms will recite their own vows, adapted from Romeo and Juliet: “My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.”
3. Rod and Ricky in Avenue Q – 10%
OK, so technically Rod and Ricky already got hitched at City Hall in 2011, but these puppets deserve a reception! Fans can’t wait to attend the puppet party of the century at the Plaza alongside Big Bird, Lamb Chop, Miss Piggy, Punch and Judy, the Fraggles and of course, Bert and Ernie.
