Hallelujah! The cast of the short-lived Broadway musical Hands on a Hardbody is heading into the recording studio to preserve the show’s score, composed by Trey Anastasio and Amanda Green. The cast recording will be released through Ghostlight Records in June, produced by Anastasio, Green and Kurt Deutsch.
Featuring music by Anastasio and Green, lyrics by Green, a book by Doug Wright and directed by Neil Pepe, Hands on a Hardbody closed at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre on April 13. The ensemble cast featured Hunter Foster, Keith Carradine, Allison Case, Jay Armstrong Johnson, David Larsen, Jacob Ming-Trent, Kathleen Elizabeth Monteleone, Mary Gordon Murray, Jim Newman, Connie Ray, Jon Rua, Keala Settle, Dale Soules, Scott Wakefield and William Youmans.
Based on the documentary of the same name, Hands on a Hardbody tells the story of 10 Texans who compete to win a fully loaded pick-up truck. For one lucky contestant, the competition could mean winning a piece of the American dream. Popular songs include “If I Had This Truck,” “I’m Gone,” “Stronger,” “Used to Be” and “Joy of the Lord.”
