Bring on the movie-musical tributes! This year’s Academy Awards producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will return to produce next year’s Oscars ceremony, the Academy announced. The 86th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
The mega-producing duo had their first go at the Oscars in February, producing the Seth MacFarlane-hosted ceremony which drew the largest entertainment telecast audience in the last three years (averaging 40.3 million viewers and a 13.0 rating with adults 18-49). The ceremony, which included performances from Kristin Chenoweth, Adele, Jennifer Hudson and the casts of Les Miserables and Chicago, was the second most-watched Oscars telecast since 2005.
Zadan and Meron are the brilliant minds behind the 2002 Best Picture winner Chicago, as well as films like Footloose and Hairspray; Broadway shows including How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Promises, Promises; and the musical theater-tinted NBC dramedy Smash. Together, their work has earned 73 Emmy nominations, 12 Tony nominations and seven Grammy nominations.
