Legendary Broadway diva and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Patti LuPone has just been announced to headline the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s 2012-13 NJSO POPS season finale. The two-time Tony Award winner will perform songs from her new album Far Away Places, backed for the first time by full orchestra.
The two concerts, conducted by Rob Fisher, will take place on June 1 and June 2. The first of which will be held at NJPAC in Newark and the second at State Theatre in New Brunswick. Along with new material, the Broadway icon will also sing some signature classics from her career on both stage and screen.
LuPone is no stranger to concerts, having performed regularly in solo shows including The Lady With the Torch which sold out at Carnegie Hall. LuPone won her first Tony Award for her portrayal of Eva Peron in the original Broadway production of Evita and she picked up her second for playing Mama Rose in the 2008 revival of Gypsy. Her other theatrical credits include Annie Get Your Gun, Sweeney Todd and an Olivier Award-winning performance as Fantine in the original London cast of Les Misérables.
