Jennifer Westfeldt, John McMartin and Broadway.com Audience Choice Award winner Lorenzo Pisoni have joined the cast for the world premiere of Nell Benjamin’s The Explorers Club. The play, directed by Marc Bruni, begins previews on May 28 at MTC at New York City Center – Stage I. Opening night is scheduled for June 20.
Set in London in 1879, the play tells the story of the prestigious Explorers Club, which is in the midst of a double crisis: Their acting president (Pisoni) wants to admit a woman, and their bartender is terrible. The female candidate is brilliant, beautiful and has discovered a legendary Lost City, but the decision to let in a woman could shake the very foundation of the British Empire, and how do you make such a decision without a decent drink?
The full cast features Brian Avers (Rock ‘n’ Roll), Max Baker (Cyrano DeBergerac), Steven Boyer (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes), Arnie Burton (Peter and the Starcatcher), Carson Elrod (All in the Timing), David Furr (The Importance of Being Earnest), Tony nominee McMartin (Into The Woods), Pisoni (Humor Abuse) and Tony nominee Westfeldt (Friends With Kids, Wonderful Town).
