Four ensemble members have been added to the cast of the new Public Theater musical Venice, starring previously announced stars Jennifer Damiano, Claybourne Elder and Leslie Odom, Jr.. The Lab production features direction and a book by Eric Rosen, music by Matt Sax and lyrics by Rosen and Sax. Venice runs from May 28 through June 23, with official opening night set for June 13.
Emilee Dupre, Semhar Ghebremichael, Devin Roberts and Manuel Stark have joined the cast of Venice, which stars Damiano as Willow Turner, Elder as Michael Victor and Odom Jr. as Markos Monroe, as well as Uzo Aduba as Anna Monroe, Jonathan-David as Theodore Westbrook, Victoria Platt as Emilia Monroe, Angela Polk as Hailey Daisy, Matt Sax as Clown and Haaz Sleiman as Venice Monroe.
Billed as “part epic romance, part political tale,” the musical takes place in a fallen city in the not-so-distant future where politics and revolution are in the water. Venice fuses hip-hop and rock into one electrifying show about a young man’s rise against a backdrop of deceit and sibling betrayal.
Venice will feature choreography by Chase Brock (replacing the previously announced Sergio Trujillo), scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Jason Lyons, sound by Acme Sound Partners, projections by Jason H. Thompson and additional music by Curtis Moore.
