The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is thrilled to be among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2013 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Carrie Coon
Nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
“First my manager called, and then the next call was from my parents. My father made a martini at 8:35 AM, which I thought was so sweet. They’re beside themselves! It hasn’t really sunk in—I just got up and made my coffee and oatmeal and started making beef stew for dinner. I feel so proud to represent Chicago, along with Jessie Mueller [Nice Work] and Karen Aldridge [Matilda] and John Sanders [Matilda]. The only problem now is I have to get dressed up and put makeup on. I’m a tomboy, so this presents a specific challenge. My Grandma Dee used to go out and buy 10 dresses for me for homecoming and I would try them on at home because she had such great taste and was such a classy lady. She died, but I know she’s somewhere right now sending good dress vibes my way!”
