The morning the Tony nominations are announced, phones start buzzing with texts and calls for the happy few who get nods. As usual, Broadway.com is thrilled to be among the callers offering congratulations and getting responses. Here are the first reactions from 2013 Tony nominees. Congrats to all!
Amanda Green
Nominated for Best Original Score, Hands on a Hardbody
“I was up this morning thinking, ‘I’m too scared to look, and I’m too scared not to look.’ My friend called and told me I was nominated, and I was like, ‘Thank God!’ Then my husband called and screamed into the phone and I screamed back at him, and that’s how I found out. Hands on a Hardbody is such a project of love—we all loved doing it, and are so sad it closed, but it’s so great it’s getting some recognition. And I’m thrilled about Bring it On, too! Maybe my husband [Jeffrey Kaplan] will take me out to a celebratory dinner tonight at A Voce. A little plate of pasta, a look out on the park and a toast to my husband for putting up with me all this time! Or maybe I’ll just walk up and down Broadway and see if people recognize me.”
