Carole King Bio Musical Beautiful to Play Pre-Broadway Run in San Francisco

Prior to a planned Broadway run, Beautiful—a new musical chronicling the life and career of singer-songwriter Carole King—will make its world premiere at San Francisco’s SHN Curran Theatre from September 24 through October 20.

Featuring songs written by Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and a book by Douglas McGrath, the show tells the story of King from her early days as a Brooklyn teenager (named Carol Klein) struggling to enter the record business to her years spent as a chart-topping music legend.

Beautiful has yet to announce casting or creative team members for the world premiere production, but the show is aiming for a Broadway premiere in the spring of 2014. The show will be directed by Marc Bruni.
