The new off-Broadway drama Nikolai and the Others will officially open at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theatre on May 6. Written by Richard Nelson with direction by David Cromer, the play began preview performances on April 4.
Set in Westport, CT in the spring of 1948, Nikolai and the Others tells the story of a close-knit group of Russian emigres who gather to eat, drink and talk. Over the course of a weekend, Nelson reimagines the ballet Orepheus, the historic creation of Balanchine and Stravinsky, and explores the interesting and controversial ways American art was funded at the outset of the Cold War.
The show stars Tony winner Michael Cerveris, Kathryne Erbe, John Glover, Stephen Kunken, Alvin Epstein and many more. It also features set design by Marsha Ginsberg, costume design by Jane Greenwood, lighting design by Ken Billington, sound design by Daniel Kluger and choreography by George Balanchine.
