Kinky Boots Star Annaleigh Ashford is Blown Away by Her BACA Victory: ‘I’ve Never Won Anything Before!’

Annaleigh Ashford’s hilarious performance in Broadway’s Kinky Boots garnered a shiny 2013 Broadway.com Audience Choice Award on May 5, and although it may not be a surprise to her fans, it was a huge shock to Ashford! At the ceremony at the Allen Room in the Time Warner Center, the Tony nominee revealed that her new BACA trophy is the first award she’s ever received!

“It’s so crazy, I’ve never won anything before,” Ashford told Broadway.com. "This is my first award, and I’m so grateful that this is it.” What makes the award extra-special for Ashford is that it comes direct from Broadway fans. “It’s such an honor,” she said. “I’m just so grateful to our fans and everyone at the theater.”

After snagging her award, Ashford had a blast at the post-show party hanging out with the Kinky Boots company—the musical also took home the award for Favorite Musical! “This is magic—the people of Broadway,” Ashford said with a smile. “There’s nothing better!”
